With the help of the (free!) Seek App, I’m beginning to learn the names of the many different kinds of mosses. Whether I know their names or not, though, I enjoy seeing them.
NOTE: Seek has a pretty good record of identifying plants and insects BUT it’s not 100% accurate, so some of my IDs might be incorrect. The more people who submit their photos, though, the more accurate the app will become.
Mosses identified by the Seek App
I’ve come upon these mosses in our yard, in other Central NY places, and in North Carolina. My favorite is the delicate fern moss. These are just a few of the more than 12,000 moss species identified worldwide.
